Joey, who plays out of Wilpshire Golf Club, triumphed by two shots from Chris Handy (Southmore) after three fine rounds. He shot an opening 68 before following that up with a par round of 71 and a 70 to finish on four under.

Not to be outdone Sophie, who like Joey plays off plus two, enjoyed similar success in the girls under-21 competition.

Sophie shot a two under par 72 in her opening round before a superb 70 left her in the driving seat. A final round 77 was good enough for a three under par total which saw her to a five shot victory.

Sophie’s dad Phil was delighted by her performance as the England Under-18 and Under-21 international fought off a number of scratch and plus one players to take the victory.

He said: “Sophie played really well throughout the event and every part of her game was solid all week.

“I am really pleased that she is continuing her fine start to the season but it’s still early days and she will continue to work hard to keep improving her game.”

Joey also overcame a competitive field which included Adam Chapman who is in the England elite men’s squad.

His dad Steve said of the pair’s success: “Joey has worked really hard on his game throughout the winter and it is really pleasing for him to see it paying off in a big event like this.

“Sophie and Joey get along so well they will have a great experience going together to compete in the world finals and it would be wonderful if they could both come home from that as winners as well.”
