AFC DARWEN boss Nick Lloyd insists his side’s focus remains on the race for the play-offs and not the chance to end the season with some silverware.

Lloyd’s side booked their place in the final of the league cup last weekend after edging out Ashton Town 5-4 after extra time to set up a final with league favourites Atherton Collieries.

But, with the Salmoners just a point off the top six heading into this weekend’s Easter double header, Lloyd is focussed on trying to secure a place in the end of season showdown.

“We are still very much in the hunt,” said Lloyd.

“Our aim is to get in the play offs.”

Darwen saw their midweek trip to Wigan Robin Park postponed meaning they still have nine league games to play heading into the final month of the season.

And Lloyd knows his squad face a tough task to keep everyone fit.

He added: “It has just been frustrating with the number of games we haven’t been able to play.

The weather has really hit us and we were starting to get some good results and put a few wins together.

“We have two tough games coming up and a lot of fixtures to fit into the last month of the season so we will just have to take it one game at a time and manage the lads as best we can.

“We are confident we can finish in the top six and take it from there.”

Darwen host Holker Old Boys tomorrow before heading to Rochdale Town on Easter Monday.

A win tomorrow could see Lloyd’s boys overhaul Cheadle in sixth and cut the gap on fifth placed Holker to a single point.

And Lloyd wants to use the weekend cup success as a springboard heading into the final weeks of the season.

“It was a good win last weekend,” he added.

“We were coasting at 3-1 up and then let them back into it but we played some great stuff in extra time and we ended up getting the right result.”
