WHEN I walked out onto the pitch at half-time on Tuesday night to make the draw, I couldn't help wishing I could stay there for the second half.

Okay, it's a tongue in cheek comment. But in my heyday as a striker I would have gobbled up at least one or two of the half chances that came Burnley's way against Leicester but went begging.

And the number of chances that were created made the end result all the more disappointing.

We didn't seem to be getting the right people in the right places and didn't test the goalkeeper enough. A lot of it stems from confidence.

It's a big part of a player's game but particularly for strikers. They thrive on goals, and when you've gone a while without scoring one then it does begin to affect you.

One goal, for either Andy Gray or Ade Akinbiyi, or even both, will make the world of difference. Not just for the individual, but for the team as well.

You can't blame the manager for persisting with them. He believes that their partnership will come good and I hope he is right.

It's an area where we look for goals to come from and the sooner we can starting popping them in the better.

Strikers have got to take a chance and be on the move.

While the result was disappointing in midweek, there were plenty of positives from it to take into tomorrow's game at Colchester.

Again it will be a tough game, but they had a bad result on Tuesday night, and they won't be jumping out of their socks. They will be apprehensive, and perhaps that's something we can take advantage of.

If we apply the same pressure as we did against the Foxes then hopefully we will get the break.

Maybe it will fall to our new captain to get us up and running. Steven Caldwell certainly looks a threat at set pieces and after being unfortunate to be denied by the crossbar at Wolves, he was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet at Turf Moor.

The late chance he had in the second half was a good strike and he was unlucky to see it blocked because I'm sure it was heading on target.

I think he will be a good captain, and hopefully it's a decision that will benefit Wayne Thomas's game too because he had his best game for a while without the added responsibilities that being the skipper brings.

Another thing I noticed on Tuesday night was the strength of team spirit.

I went into the dressing room before the game and there is still a bright mood among the players.

A big part of the battle is keeping the spirit high and the Clarets don't seem to have any worries on that score.

Everyone's clearly pulling together. It's just a matter of getting a result.
