NEW Ramsbottom United manager Jon Robinson has boosted his squad with two further signings.

The Rams’ ranks have been hit after a number of regulars followed former bosses Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley to Salford City.

But Robinson has been quick to cover the gaps and on Tuesday night he made three more additions including the return of fans’ favourite Lee Gaskell.

The prolific striker arrived at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium in 2010 from Walshaw Sports and scored 20 goals in his first season for the club.

A further 22 followed in the following season as the Rams won promotion to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League.

Gaskell fired 32 goals in the Rams’ first season in the First Division North before he helped himself to 33, and the league’s golden boot award, as they won promotion to the Premier Division last season.

Injury disrupted his start to this season and he made just four starts before moving to FA Cup giant-killers Warrington Town in November.

Robinson has also managed to snap up Luke Heron having completed a deal for full-back George Bowyer earlier in the week.

Left back Heron has previously been on the books of Trafford and spent time with Rochdale during his youth.

Elsewhere, Chorley were knocked out of the FA Trophy on Tuesday night after they lost their second-round replay 1-0 at lower-league FC United of Manchester.

A 52nd-minute strike from the talented Tom Greaves was enough to send the Evo-Stik League Premier Division side through to the last 16.

But Conference North side Chorley came close to equalising when they struck the post twice and had two penalty claims turned down.

The Magpies return to action in the league this weekend when they make the trip to Hednesford Town.
