LOUIS Mayers was the hero for Clitheroe after scoring a dramatic late winner to seal a 3-2 victory over play-off chasing Droylsden.

Droylsden missed a chance to take an early lead from the penalty spot on 14 minutes but Ciaran Kilheeney’s effort came back off the post.

Clitheroe took full advantage and took the lead on 39 minutes when Cory Bent ran on to a Jason Hart through ball and finished confidently.

But in first-half stoppage time, Adam Morning curled in a superb free kick to level the scores for Droylsden.

Seydou Bamba put the home side 2-1 ahead on 57 minutes with a superb run and shot from the edge of the box.

But back came Droylsden who drew level for a second time on 69 minutes with Morning scoring his second goal, again straight from a free-kick.

The deciding goal came after Sefton Gonzales had dribbled round a couple of defenders to lay the ball across to Mayers, who made no mistake from 10 yards out.

Padiham’s match against league leaders Darlington 1883 at the Arbories was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and Ramsbottom United’s clash with Trafford was also called off.
