BLACKBURN Rovers have tonight completed the permanent signing of on-loan Middlesbrough goalkeeper Jason Steele – despite being hit with a transfer embargo for failing Financial Fair Play.
Steele has penned a three-and-a-half-year deal after Rovers agreed an undisclosed fee with boyhood club Boro for his services.
Earlier this month Rovers were one of three Championship clubs, along with Leeds United and Nottingham Forest, to discover they will have to work under a ‘FFP embargo’ in the January transfer window.
That means the trio will be unable to pay fees for new players – either permanent or loan – next month.
But the rules state that Rovers, Leeds and Forest can sign players they have on season-long loans before the embargo comes into force tomorrow, New Year’s Day.
