THIS might sound like a bit of a sulk but I don’t like doing man of the match awards.

Don’t get me wrong, I will never turn it down (well not always) but I just don’t seem to be particularly good at it.

I think the pressure gets to me.

Many years ago, I once did the MOTM award in a Harry Dewhurst Memorial League final and changed my mind at the last moment. The original recipient found out and wasn’t too happy.

You could put it down to lack of experience but last year I was at it again.

In the Blackburn Sunday League Charity Shield I still didn’t know who I was going to pick as I walked up to tell league official John Haworth who was holding the microphone awaiting my choice.

Eyebrows were raised when I eventually told him.

Thankfully, I got it spot on this time around.

Young Tyler Hayhurst (left) was the stand-out player on the pitch.

He got stuck in, played some eye-catching stuff and scored a wonderful free kick – something that is handy when trying to pick a winner!
