Blackburn Hawks have bid a fond farewell to crowd favourite Bobby Haig at the end of a 12-year association between the Scot and the local ice hockey outfit.

Ironically, player-coach Bobby finished his Hawks career against his home-town club Fife Flyers on Sunday, a game in which his brother, John (once with Hawks), fittingly captained the opposition.

Unfortunately, long-serving Bobby failed to lead his side to victory in his final fixture as the Scottish champions triumphed 8-2 at the Arena.

Bobby has decided to move up to Dundee to be close to family and is expected to ply his trade with Scottish side, Dundee Tigers.

General manager Graham Lomax admitted that Bobby would be missed in a playing and coaching capacity at the Arena.

"Bobby has been a top player for us for over a decade," said Lomax. "I remember queuing in the rain to watch Hawks, and especially Bob, years back. He was worth the entrance fee alone.

"He has also been coaching with us for a long time. Some of the youngsters he has coached in the past are now in the first team. He has had a major influence on their careers.

"However, Bob is leaving us in very good hands. He has helped the club to build a firm foundation and it looks as healthy as it has ever been.

"It was a very fitting finale for him to face his brother and his home-town team. We wish him the very best."
