BLACKBURN Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage revealed it was an "honour" to wear the captain's armband.

But the Welshman admitted he would have no trouble handing it over to Ryan Nelsen when the defender returns from injury.

Savage, who is expected to lead the side out again tonight against Watford, took on the role of captain on Saturday against Manchester City, following the uncertainty surrounding Lucas Neill.

Rovers won and he admitted he loved every minute of it.

He said: "I found out just before the game. It was a honour to be chosen and I wanted to do it, and this is a great start for me, so hopefully we'll continue it.

"But I think Ryan Nelsen is a great captain and as soon as he comes back and takes the captaincy off me, I'll be thankful because he's a leader and a great guy."
