Ramsbottom Utd 3 Kendal Town 0

RAMSBOTTOM United are closing in on a play-off berth after brushing aside Kendal Town with another first half super show.

Phil Dean’s first minute opener set the tone, firing home the Rams opener, before Gary Stopforth and Dean’s second made the points safe before half-time. United are proving the league’s great entertainers, having scored 105 league goals – the most in Division One.

With mid-table Kendal only having pride to play for, Rammy struck early to put the Cumbrians on the back foot.

Lee Gaskell provided the ammunition, racing down the right flank, his cross was met by Dean who made no mistake. It was just the start the Rams needed, and there was no way back for the visitors when Ramsbottom doubled their lead after half an hour. This time Dean turned provider, with Gaskell’s shot deflected into the path of Gary Stopforth, who blasted the loose ball home.

Rammy were in total control, and five minutes before half-time the contest was all but over.

Dominic Smalley sparked the move, and Stopforth set up Dean, who headed in at the far post.

It was a welcome return to winning ways after a couple of draws as Rammy prepare for their next league assignment at play-off rivals Farsley, who drew 1-1 at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium last week.
