RISHTON United thumped strugglers Clifton 6-0 as they fired another warning shot to long time Premier Division leaders Blackburn United.
Rishton, beaten once this term, have now cut the gap on United to just four points.
Top dogs United found the winning groove again after their shock defeat to Feildens Arms a week earlier, brushing past relegation-haunted Greenfield 3-1.
But with free-scoring Rishton enjoying a rich vein of form, and having several games in hand, they are surely poised for an all-out title attack in the coming weeks.
Bottom of the table Islington handed themselves a precious lifeline, running out 4-2 winners at high-flying Wellington Inn with only their third victory of the campaign.
Vauxhall Inn climbed into fifth place, edging past Hole I'Th Wall.
In the Second Division, the game of the day between leaders Clayton Park and second-placed The Ivy Veterans was abandoned with Clayton 4-0 to the good.
Blackburn United Reserves and Blackburn Eagles drew 1-1 and their was a similar outcome in the fixture between IMO and Alexandra Hotel.
Feildens Arms were in action in the Cotton Cup and they made made it through to the next round, edging out Blackburn Olympic 3-2.
