DANIEL Barritt has one main goal for 2007 - to win the Production World Rally Championship.

The Hapton navigator has agreed to hook-up again with Japanese driver Fumio Nutahara, with whom he finished second overall at the end of his debut season in the Championship last year.

And the pair, who were eventually pipped to the 2006 title by Qatar driver Nasser Al-Attayiah in heartbreaking circumstances, are even more determined than ever to go one better this time in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX.

Barritt and Nutahara were in contention for last year's title right up to the final round in New Zealand, but a crash lost them vital ground on the leaderboard and Al-Attayiah ended up claiming the crown, even though he failed to complete the rally.

Nevertheless, the whole experience of competing in the PWRC proved to be a great learning curve for Barritt and Nutahara, and they now feel better equipped to mount a new challenge for the title.

"We were a little bit unlucky in the end, but to finish second in our first year was still a great achievement - especially when you consider we had never met each other before last season," said Barritt.

"Now the team and the sponsors want to go one better and win the title, but that's going to be tough because the competition is going to be a lot stronger this year."

The Production World Rally Championship is part of the FIA World Rally Championship, only it's based on six of the 16 rounds.

The teams can choose the six events they compete in from a list of eight, so Barritt and Nutahara are hoping to draw on the experience they gained in last year's championship to give them the edge in this year's one.

"We've picked the rallies we think will best suit the driver and the tyres," said Barritt.

"We think we're going to be strong in at least three of them, but it's going to be a competitive championship.

"But our plan is to go into each rally and try and finish in the top two or three. Everyone in the team is really determined to do well, we've got a new car, and we've done a lot of development work on the tyres, so we are confident of doing well."

Their quest for the title begins in the snow in Sweden next month, where the Karlstad Super Special Stage, which features two cars running head to head on a parallel track.

After that, the pair then head for Mexico, Argentina, New Zealand, Japan and Rally Ireland (Sligo).

Barritt is also considering entering the British Rally Championship again, possibly with Philip Morrow, who he competed with last year.
