ACCRINGTON Stanley assistant manager Jimmy Bell hopes the capture of Alan Rogers will be "just what the doctor ordered".

The former Nottingham Forest left back, who cost £2 million in his first spell with the club, became the Reds' first signing in the January transfer window yesterday.

And Bell hopes the experienced defender, who turned 30 yesterday, will be a good influence on the Conference champions.

"Alan has a lot of experience and we hope he has the desired effect on the squad," he said.

"He's been out of the game for about five or six weeks after getting a niggling hamstring injury at Bradford City and losing his place, but that's not a problem for us.

"Obviously he's going to be a bit rusty and we will ease him in and get him fit, but he's itching to get back into it and he'll go straight into the squad for Saturday's game at Boston United.

"We've been looking to get a bit of experience into the squad. We've got a very young back four still and I think he will be just what the doctor ordered."

Stanley have also extended Cardiff City defender Joe Jacobson's loan deal for another month.
