FORMER Chorley pro Tom Smith has been selected for the England A tour to Bangladesh next month.

Smith, who had a fantastic debut season for Lancashire and has just returned from a stint in Australia with National Academy in Perth, has been selected for the month-long, six-match tour of Bangladesh.

National Academy Director Peter Moores, said: "The squad is very exciting as it contains some new names such as Nick Compton and Adil Rashid and the recently-qualified Amjad Khan.

"We are also giving an opportunity to Michael Carberry and Will Jefferson, two players who have been around for some time but have shown the attitude and ability to move on to higher honours.

"The rest of the squad is made up of the players who spent the first part of the winter in Perth who will have a chance to show how they have developed, in the competitive phase of the programme."
