JARED Owen is seeking immediate revenge on title chasing Billingham Stars after seeing his Blackburn Hawks side lose 6-3 to them on Saturday.

The defeat all but ends any hope of finishing the league as runners up but player coach Owen knows the boost a win in Sunday’s reverse fixture at the Arena could provide his side.

Hawks have already beaten Billingham once this season and, ahead of their final meeting in the regular league campaign, Owen is looking to even up matters.

He said: “If we could win on Sunday then we both would have won two matches and that would be an improvement on last season.

“They are a good side and are still going for the title but I thought we played quite well against them on Saturday.

“A win at the weekend would be a confidence booster though.

“The lads are a good team but sometimes they need reminding of that.

“You have to remember that the play-offs are just four matches, two in the semi-final and two in the final. We are capable of winning four matches.

“Hopefully we can finish the season well to make sure we go into the play-offs in good form and in good confidence.”

Owen, Matt Viney and Reece Cairney-Witter were on target for Hawk’s in the 6-3 defeat at Billingham.

“The difference was a few power play goals,” said Owen. “There were plenty of positive to take from it and the guys battled hard throughout.

“They got a couple of power play goals and it gave us something to chase.

“We also lost Ivo Dimitrijevs with a nasty knock to the head.

“He ended up with a golf ball lump on his cheekbone and was pretty dazed, but he will get checked out and hopefully he will be okay.

“I was pleased with the guys though.

“Some of the penalties we conceded had to be taken.

“We got a few power plays as well but we just didn’t take them.

“We actually defended against the power play well as well but we conceded a couple of five on threes and you would expect to in that situation.”

And Owen is pleased that the Hawks will have the chance to immediately right the wrongs this weekend.

He added: “We are looking forward to Billingham this weekend and will be confident in our own ability.”
