STEVE Cotterill has revealed he has no plans to add any loan signings to his Burnley squad.

And he said he "doubted" whether he would make any permanent deals in the January transfer window.

The Burnley boss admitted after the recent Luton match that he was desperate to bolster his side with a number of players out through injury and suspension.

But after watching his threadbare Clarets defence keep a clean sheet against Ipswich last Saturday, he is on the verge of welcoming several of his top stars back into the fold - including captain Wayne Thomas and Steve Foster.

And he warned bringing in a player on loan could upset the tremendous team spirit that exists in the camp.

"If we could add to the squad then I would want to add to it permanently," he said.

"I would've wanted to add to the squad in the last couple of weeks, certainly with a centre half that I would've brought in and not worried about pushing a few people's noses out of joint for a week or two, because that would've been beneficial to us.

"What we've done is we've just got through the last three weeks by the absolute skin of our teeth, make no bones about that.

"But we're not here saying look at us, we've arrived and we've managed to get through that. No way.

"At this moment in time, there wouldn't be a player we would want to leave out to bring somebody else in on loan, because you'll upset all the spirit you've gained.

"We needed somebody on loan a month ago. We don't need somebody now."

Burnley have been linked with a temporary move for out-of-favour Sheffield United defender Chris Lucketti, although Cotterill has dismissed the rumours.

And he emphasised anyone wanting to make a move to Turf Moor has their work cut out to find a place in the side.

He added: "If you go and get somebody in on loan, they've got to be better than what you've got.

"To pay someone, for a player that's better than what you've got, they would have to come here and be in the team and be here for a good, long spell, or until the end of the season.

"Because if you bring in a loan player right now, who are you going to replace at this moment in time who's doing very well for us?

"It would be very very difficult.

"Then the loan player comes in. Does he want it? Does he not want it? Does he fancy it? Does he not fancy it?

"Then you upset whoever you've left out of the team by bringing in a loan player."
