BURNLEY'S last minute goal hero Chris McCann is confident the Clarets can shoot down table-topping Cardiff City this weekend and keep up their push for promotion.

The 19-year-old midfielder slotted in seamlessly as an emergency centre back on Saturday and scored the vital winner against Ipswich in the dying seconds of the match.

And the return of key players, including Steve Foster, from suspension, and captain Wayne Thomas from injury, has given manager Steve Cotterill a selection dilemma ahead of the trip to Ninian Park, with the Bluebirds sitting just two points above Burnley in the league.

The suspension of midfielder Micah Hyde could see McCann pushed into his more natural position in the centre of the park for the top of the table clash.

But the young Irish starlet, who came in for some well earned praise from his manager after last Saturday's spectacular showing, admitted he wasn't concerned where he played, as long as the team kept on winning.

He said: "I thought I did alright, and to top it all off I scored the winner to cap a great day and a good win.

"I played there two seasons ago. I came over here as a midfielder, but ended up playing centre back.

"It's a change from playing midfield because you're the last man, but I enjoyed it.

"I'm just pleased to be back in the side, and hopefully that game will do me the world of good and I can push for a starting place again.

"We've got another tough game in Cardiff now, but we'll just go there and give it our all. We know we're capable of going there and getting a result."

Should results go their way on Saturday, the Clarets could finish the day at the top of the Championship.

However, McCann was keeping his feet firmly on the ground and refused to get carried away.

He added: "We have a great mix in the team of experience and youth, quality players, and we have players capable of scoring goals, and we're full of confidence.

"We'll just keep going though, try and keep winning games, and see where it takes us."
