Burnley manager Steve Cotterill applauded his side's "never-say-die" attitude after seeing them claim all the points with a stoppage time winner against Ipswich.

Burnley looked like having to settle for just a draw, despite edging the game on points, but the Clarets dug deep and emergency centre-half Chris McCann's late winner saw Cotterill's side take the spoils.

And the October manager of the month winner said he believed side were worthy of their victory.

He said: "They (the players) don't give up. You put Alan Mahon on because you want something a little bit different but I just thought it was quick thinking from a centre half, Michael Duff, to take the corner quickly.

"It was a good run from Mahon, a fantastic ball in and for McCann to do what he did today, I thought he got big rewards and I'm delighted for him."

He added: "I thought we were the team in the second half that were looking to win the game.

"I thought we forced the issue, which you have to do when you're the home team, so I'm delighted we got a winning goal.

"It was a hard fought victory but I thought we deserved it in the end.

"I thought if they'd have scored, it was going to be on the break because I thought most of the play was down in the Ipswich half."

His opposite number Jim Magilton was philosophical about the defeat but had no complaints.

He said: "It's a bitter pill to swallow. We came with a game plan, it worked terrifically well, but if you switch off in the manner that we did in the last minute you deserve to be punished."
