WHAT a difference a bit of sun makes, and what a difference seven days make.

This time last week you could have been forgiven for thinking some major catastrophe was about to hit town.

Now we can look forward to the world’s media descending upon the town for better reasons.

In some days time we will have William and Kate visiting the town of Blackburn and I, for one, would like to thank them for choosing this place more than any other.

Yes, they could have picked any place in the UK, but they decided to come to our town in the heart of Lancashire.

While most folk are generally happy with the visit, I can’t believe some of the comments I have heard.

What is it about some people?

Do we actually revel in being miserable?

Is this a Northern thing that despite everything else we still find a way to criticise everything?

When something nice happens we tend to find a fault with it straightaway. Rather than just say that maybe, just maybe, things are not always so mind-numbingly depressing.

One fellow was happy that the Royal couple were coming because ‘at least the pot holes would get filled’ and the ‘grass cut’.

Fair point I guess, but I’m sure they would have been done anyway.

Another suggestion I heard was what a waste of money this all was and there were far more interesting things to spend our public funds on.

And finally, one bloke was worried the traffic might cause disruption.

Not that this guy had to go to work that day, but it would be nice if there were ‘no diversions’ to stop him from going window shopping in Blackburn town centre.

Just be happy for a change.

Everything is not a complete mess all the time, and every so often we can relax and make a good day even better.

Put a smile on your face, wear your jeans, shalwar kameez, T-shirts, headscarves, or suits, and get yourselves down to Witton Park to cheer the Royal couple on.

I’m sure most of us already will be...
