RESIDENTS are understandably annoyed about the lack of action to tackle problems on the Grane Road.

Over recent years there have been numerous complaints about motorists driving too fast and the volume of HGVs using the road.

Every time there is an accident there have been renewed cries for something to be done.

But despite these calls there have only been stop-gap measures, such as reducing the speed limit in places, which critics say have caused as many problems as they have solved.

Thankfully light is now at the end of the tunnel.

Lancashire County Council says that it has almost completed a three-year study required if major remedial work is needed on the road.

The results should be known in September or October with proposals being drawn up before the end of the year.

If major work needs to be done on the road, it should be completed as a matter of urgency with the council trying to complete the necessary consultations as quickly as possible.

The Grane Road is one of the major trunk roads in East Lancashire and any problems need to be addressed.

Lancashire County Council owes it to residents to tackle their concerns quickly if they prove to be well founded.
