I was at the very well attended Eucharist Sunday Morning service at the Cathedral and was pleasantly surprised by how well its interior was looking after its bit of a spruce up for the Queen’s visit.

It’s such a lovely building and we are so very lucky to have such an evocative building here in Blackburn connecting us with all those who have worshipped there over the centuries.

Now many years ago, must be at least 40, in the melee of young people that seemed to congregate at our house were two or three good looking young ladies.

That wasn’t so surprising really as I had three handsome (or so they thought) sons.

Well of course they could not marry them all, but despite that fact I have remained friends with most of the girls and this week one of my favourites has been down to stay with me for the weekend.

It’s amazing how much time can be spent talking about ‘do you remember when’ and looking at old photos.

You pick up one, look at it, laugh and say ‘did I really go out in that?’ and then you look at others and think whatever happened to them and where are they now.

We have been lucky having such a mild winter; I remember the terrible one of 1948 I don’t think anyone who experienced that can ever forget it. Huge snow drifts, schools closed, and a shortage of essential goods. Relax now, and think of the long hot summer we will have!

How do I know it will be a long hot summer, because that’s what I’d put in my 10 wishes for 2014 and I am a big believer ‘that whatever Margo wants Margo gets’.

Well, I have to keep telling myself that, because it boosts my confidence!

Driving through the Ribble Valley I thought how lovely were the daffodils in bloom by the roadside, I am so glad that the local authorities have allowed them to blossom.

They used to cut the verges so often that the poor daffs didn’t have a chance.
