I THINK we are so lucky living here in lovely Lancashire. Oh, I know some of you will be smirking and saying ‘I don’t think so’ but we are.

We have great local towns, with lots of places of interest close at hand, great shopping and fabulous friendly folk. I mean, what more could you want?

We try to go for a run out each week and on Saturday we went to Silverdale and Arnside and on the way we called at Carnforth.

Of course, you can’t go to Carnforth without paying a visit to the famous railway station, where the wonderful film Brief Encounter was filmed.

I was rather surprised at how many people were there – it seems I am not the only one who remembers it.

It’s obviously a big asset to the town and an attraction that brings in plenty of trade.

There’s also an excellent buffet room which pleased me and, of course, the ‘puffer trains’ give it that man appeal.

I vaguely recall a film being made in Blackburn and that many of us were crowd ‘extras’ – but I can’t for the life of me remember what it was called.

  • I have for many years had a flag flying at the road side entrance to my house and until recently it has been the English flag, but it got worn and tattered so Pete, a friend of my son’s, gave me a Union Jack as a replacement.

But it seems I have hung it the wrong way. Now I know there is a right and wrong way, but I’d forgotten so, first job in the morning is the rehanging of the flag.

I feel quite pleased that so many people not only noticed our national flag, of which I am very proud, but also knew that I had got it wrong and took the trouble to let me know.

So, thank you.

  • ON Sunday I went to a charity garden part held at Doreen’s, where I enjoyed good food, excellent company and weather beautiful – and I won a raffle prize.

Things don’t get much better than that do they?
