A FORMER retail showroom and warehouse could be demolished over fears youngsters breaking into the site could lose their life by having an accident.

A plan to knock down Cedar Works in Market Street, Waterfoot, has been submitted to Rossendale Council for approval.

The site already has planning permission for nine homes to be constructed.

In a statement to the council a spokesman for applicant Bury Roofing Services said: “The developer has been made aware of anti-social behaviour on the site and also criminal damage and cases of theft and un-authorised access by young children into the site.

“The site has been made as secure as possible, however the developer is now concerned that should an injury or worse case a death occur on the site, they would be liable.”

A final decision is expected to be made by the council in the coming months.
