A BEAUTY salon in Whitworth has been fined after ignoring an enforcement notice from Rossendale Council.
Cobello’s in Market Street was the subject of complaints after it installed ‘dazzling’ lights which were a danger for passing motorists.
Owner Michael Sloan failed to apply for planning permission for the floodlights and refused to remove them even after council officers visited him last August.
He was fined £230 at Reedley Magistrates’ Court and ordered to pay the costs of £570 and a victim surcharge of £15.
Lancashire County Council’s highways department visited the salon and confirmed that the angle and brightness of the floodlights could distract drivers.
Coun Amanda Robertson, chair of Rossendale Council’s development control committee said: “This was a serious contravention of planning regulations that put public safety at risk. The council will not tolerate this kind of behaviour and I hope this will serve as a warning to others who simply think they can do whatever they want, without having any regard for the public.”
