FIREFIGHTERS have tackled a huge blaze at Rossendale United FC's ground in Newchurch tonight.
A timber stand at the derelict Dark Lane ground has been wrecked in the fire.
Neighbours had to be evacuated as thick smoke poured from the remains of the structure.
Police have cordoned off the area while an investigation is carried out.
The blaze started at around 5.15pm.
Five fire engines attended and crews used three jets to tackle the flames.
Crews are still at the scene dampening down the main stand.
