Fire crew rescued a man from his bed after the living room in his Whitworth home caught alight.
Retained crew attended the scene in Hill Top at 7.55pm on Monday and entered the house using breathing apparatus.
The man was asleep in an upstairs room but declined any hospital treatment.
A section of carpet in the downstairs room was damaged by the flames.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
