A MAN is critically ill in hospital after his car hit a wall and lamp post.
Ross Hill, 20, was driving his Vauxhall Corsa along Market Street, Whitworth, about 5.30am on Saturday when the incident occurred.
Police said that Mr Hill lost control of the vehicle while travelling at speed towards Bacup and the car collided with a concrete wall and then bounced onto a lamppost.
Mr Hill, from Rochdale, was taken by ambulance to Rochdale Infirmary, to be treated for a serious head injury.
He was transferred to Royal Preston Hospital, where he was today in a critical condition.
Sergeant Martin Bishop from Colne road policing unit said: "We are appealing for any witnesses to get in touch on 01282 472431."
