SCHOOLCHILDREN in Simonstone are hoping to become record breakers in the world’s biggest synchronised signing and singing session.
A total of 123 children from Simonstone St Peter’s CE Primary School stopped their class work to take part in Sign2sing, an event set up to help raise awareness and promote sign language.
To qualify for their attempt the children had the learn a song to perform using sign language while also singing the words, which they had to perform at precisely 2.45pm yesterday. More than 1,000 schools signed up to take part in the attempt from different corners of the globe.
Head Sally Smith said: “We decided to take part as we have a child in the school, Archie Bancroft, a reception pupil, who uses sign language so wanted to do something to help other children with hearing problems. The children have been learning the song for the past three and a half weeks. They have loved learning it and have all done really well with it.”
Other schools taking part were Earby Springfield Primary School, St Bartholomew’s Primary, Great Harwood, Pendle View Primary School, Nelson, St John Southworth RC Primary School, Nelson and Water Primary School in Rossendale.
