POLICE have warned dog owners to keep control of their dogs after five sheep died after being savaged.

Officers said the the livestock were discovered fatally wounded in the Dinckley area of Ribble Valley, close to Langho.

They said there were five sheep who sustained wounds consistent with dog bites and that the injuries sadly proved fatal for these sheep.

A Ribble Valley police spokesman, said: "Please could all dog owners ensure that their dogs are on leads in areas where they may come across livestock."

Police added they had considered whether the injures could have been inflicted by a fox but the injuries looked more like they were caused by a dog.
