ST Helen's Church, Waddington, had a diocesan share deficit of £2,678 by the end of December 2006.
This figure would have been worse had the church not taken £2,372 from its reserves at Bradford.
By contrast St Helens' fundraising in 2006 broke all records and the church received some generous donations.
Last year's scarecrow rally made a profit of £12,700.
However, £4,200 was given to the Waddington Playing Fields appeal.
