Bradley Johnson hopes it is a case of home comforts this weekend - but says Rovers are well aware of the pitfalls of facing newly-promoted opposition at Ewood.

Luton and Charlton have already left East Lancashire victorious, with fellow newly-promoted side Barnsley lying in wait on their return to action.

Rovers ended their wait for a win in dramatic fashion last time out at their headquarters, with two late goals securing all three points against Sheffield Wednesday.

They will hope to back that up against the Reds, having lost for a fifth consecutive away match against Leeds United before the break.

The Tykes arrive bottom of the league, and without a win since the opening day, though Johnson says Rovers won’t be taking anything for granted, having already been beaten in front of their own fans by Luton in September and Charlton on the opening day.

“Our home form has been good. Everyone talks about where Barnsley are in the league but it doesn’t matter. Two other newly-promoted teams have come to Ewood and won,” he explained.

“That’s something we’ve been disappointed with.

“The Luton game, and the first game of the season (against Charlton), I thought we played well and didn’t deserve to lose.

“But that’s the nature of this league, you have to be concentrated for 90 minutes otherwise you’ll get punished.

“That’s happened against the newly-promoted sides.

“We know what we have to do, work hard and stick together.

“We’re raring to go, we’ve done all the training now, we’ve had the break and concentrated on Barnsley.”

Johnson will be eyeing a recall having not started seven of the last nine Championship fixtures, despite being a regular prior to the October break.

The possibility of a recall could well hinge on where boss Tony Mowbray accommodates Lewis Holtby.

The 29-year-old made his third start in Rovers colours at Elland Road, but first in central midfield, as he became the latest man to partner Lewis Travis in the middle of the pitch.

Rovers have won three of their opening nine home fixtures, having beaten Middlesbrough 1-0 in August courtesy of a Danny Graham penalty, and returning from the September international break to beat Millwall 2-0 when Derrick Williams and Bradley Dack were on the scoresheet.

Meanwhile, Corry Evans was substituted early in the second half as Northern Ireland were thrashed 6-1 against Germany.

The Rovers midfielder won his 59th cap, having featured in the 0-0 draw with the Netherlands four days earlier, as Michael O’Neill’s side were soundly beaten in Frankfurt.

They had already made secure of a play-off spot in their bid to reach Euro 2020 where they will face Bosnia in a bid to reach next summer’s finals.

Those play-off matches will take place in March, with O’Neill set to be in charge, despite taking over as boss at Championship strugglers Stoke City earlier this month.

Northern Ireland took a shock lead in Frankfurt, will full back Michael Smith opening the scoring, but without key defenders Jonny Evans and Jamal Lewis, it proved to be a rare high spot for the Irish.

Evans will join up with the rest of the Rovers squad today as they prepare for their return to Championship action against Barnsley on Saturday.

The 29-year-old will be bidding to make his first home start of the season, with all three so far coming on Rovers’ travels.
