PENDLE council’s Labour leader has stepped up his pressure on former Conservative Mayor Rosemary Carroll to resign over sharing a ‘racist’ post Facebook.
She has been suspended by the Conservative Party over the alleged ‘joke’.
Earby’s Cllr Carroll has said she accidentally posted the offensive content while intending to delete it.
Now Cllr Mohammed Iqbal, who reported her to the council’s Monitoring Office Phil Mousdale has accused her of failing to respond to the complaint.
Cllr Iqbal said: “She clearly has chosen to ignore this which further questions her position as a senior councillor and I would publicly call on her to resign from the council.
“Cllr Carroll is making inexcusable points trying to justify her behaviour and it’s quite simply unacceptable “
Cllr Carroll said: "If after serving over 30 years in local government, you can be hung, drawn and quartered over one mistake then it says a lot about how local government is going.
“If Cllr Iqbal will not accept my apology then this says more about his character than mine.
“I will not be bullied or intimidated .”
