YOUNG farmers and older hands turned out in style to pay tribute to one of their own in a near-40 strong convoy of tractors across East Lancashire.

Supporters of the Second Pendleside Vintage Tractor Run are on track to raise more than £2,000 in memory of Sabden farmer Andrew Nutter, who died from bone cancer in April 2009.

Part of the Ribble Valley Motor Club’s annual vintage rally, the parade from Fence, through Wheatley Lane, Barrowford, Blacko, Roughlee, Barley, Newchurch and Sabden Fold, was joined by classic cars, military jeeps and trailers.

It was officially started by Andrew’s sisters Sarah, 28, and Laura, 35, and his mother Ruth, with his best friend and race organiser Phil Sanderson in the lead tractor.

Phil said: “We decided it would be a fitting tribute to him to organise a tractor run to help raise funds for the local hospital because of the outstanding care they showed for Andrew.”

Proceeds from the run go to the chemotherapy unit at Royal Blackburn Hospital and Macmillan.

Sarah added: “Andrew would probably think we were daft doing this but it is something he would have loved to take part in. It’s really good seeing everyone turn out like this.”

Andrew worked at Sabden Old Hall Farm with his brother Brian, 39.
