A 'BAKE OFF' style competition was held at a school's open evening.

The Food Technology and Modern Foreign Languages departments at West Craven High School collaborated to create the best cake.

During the open evening, students set to work on their creations and showed off their skills and handiwork.

Year nine student Jake Thompson took home the winner's title with his 'Hamburger from Hamburg via the USA' design.

Jake, 13, said: "I was very pleased that I won, I would like to thank my dad for allowing me to practice at home.

"I am going to buy some Xbox games with my voucher."

The school's deputy principal, Claire Watson, said: "The staff would like to pass on their gratitude to our current students that helped to make the night such a wonderful event.

"We also look forward to seeing some of the Year six students we met on the evening attending our induction days later on in the year."
