IMMIGRATION officials have raided a number of retail premises in Pendle.

Thousands of pounds was seized during the joint operation between Pendle Neighbourhood Police Team, Pendle Council and Home Office Immigration officials yesterday.

One premises in Albert Road, Colne was searched during which one person was taken ill.

PC Nigel Keates said: "A joint operation between Pendle Neighbourhood Police Team, Pendle Council and Home Office Immigration was conducted resulting in a number of retail premises being visited.

"Two persons were detained for immigration offences, several thousand pounds seized and the commencement of legal proceedings that could result in fines of up to £20,000 for employers and retail licences being revoked for the shop owners.

"During the operation one person was taken ill and entry had to be forced into the premises by police.

"Many witnessed one of the scenes on Albert Rd, Colne, and enquired about the the person taken ill.

"I'm glad to report he is recovering well, but will no longer be working at the store."
