THE Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, Lord Shuttleworth, has made a call for people to nominate outstanding volunteer groups in their area for the 2014 Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, before this year’s deadline on Monday, September 30.
The honour, equivalent to an MBE, recognises the exceptional contributions made to local communities by voluntary groups.
Jo Darbyshire, chairman of the Lancashire panel said, “Volunteering groups in East Lancashire make a huge contribution to people’s lives, often without praise for the incredible job they do. A prestigious national honour such as this can prove invaluable in so many ways to their ongoing success. I know that volunteers enjoy what they do but often they tackle challenging problems or circumstances which require extra time and effort way beyond the original need.”
