FOLLOWING Bradley Wiggins’ Tour de France victory, and Lizzie Armistead’s Olympic silver medal, Blackburn with Darwen Council and Sky Ride Local are urging people to cycle for fun and fitness.
On Sundays August 12 and 26, novices can ride from Witton Country Park around Cherry Tree.
From the same start, steady cyclists can try the ‘Pleasington Panoramique’ on Sunday, August 5, while, on August 19, it’s ‘Bumps and Barges’ along the canal.
On August 12, the ‘Ribble View Roller’, an 18-mile moorland ride, starts from Pleckgate High School.
For committed cyclists, ‘Le Tour de Lancs’ leaves Darwen’s Whitehall Park on August 5, and 26, with steep climbs, and relaxed descents, through beautiful villages.
And on Sunday, August 19, a ‘Beauty and the Beast’ ride starts from Waves Water Fun Centre, in Blackburn centre, offering beautiful views and beastly hills on a ride around East Lancashire.
Coun Damian Talbot, executive member for leisure, said: “Now the Tour de France is over, and the Olympics are underway, why not enjoy the range of local rides on offer for you, and your family, for free. Cycling is a fantastic way to discover spectacular scenery”
