STONE thieves are costing the taxpayer in Hyndburn.
The council paid out £1,100 to Accrington firm Mercers Builders Limited last month to replace stolen stone coping, including some from Rhyddings Park in Oswaldtwistle.
The cost was revealed in council expenditure documents, which also revealed Mercers were paid £525 to carry out repairs to the war memorial at Altham.
