KEEN gardeners are drawing up plans to ensure a Valley village shines for the rest of the summer and beyond.
Edenfield Village Residents’ Association is behind their annual ‘in bloom’ competition, where residents and householders are urged to muck in and make a difference.
For 2014, marking the centenary of the start of the First World War, horticulturalists are being encouraged to incorporate poppies into their designs.
Five prizes of £50 are being offered across a range of categories. Last year prizes were handed out for the best tubs, troughs, hanging baskets, small front garden and large front garden.
County councillor Anne Cheetham, who represents the Rossendale South division, has provided £100 from her community fund towards the event, with the residents’ association supplying the rest.
