NOMINATIONS are being sought for young people who have excelled in either academic achievement or community endeavours over the past 12 months.

The Shaw Greening Award is presented by Earby Town Council every year to 16 to 25-year-olds whose selfless acts or community spirit have caught the eye.

Last year Nicola Haines, who raised more than £7,000 before embarking on a charity trek for Macmillan Cancer Care, was the recipient of the honour. The Shaw Greening Award was first launched in 1973, created in memory of Dick Shaw and Alfred Greening, both long-serving members of Earby Urban District Council and Earby May Day Committee.

Those entering must live within the old Earby Urban District Council boundaries. Nominations can be dropped off at the town council offices, addressed to Coun Chris Tennant, or by e-mailing earbytc@gmail.com.
