TREASURE hunters from a Padiham school have been testing out satellite technology during a new project.
Pupils at St Leonard’s CE Primary School were given hand-held Global Positioning System (GPS) devices as part of a search along the disused railway line between Padiham and Burnley.
Classes, led by student teacher Lindsay Entwistle, were challenged to find six hidden items along the one mile route as part of an activity known as geocaching. She said: “It teaches them to operate in teams and to use one of the latest devices to discover where they are and find a previously identified location. St Leonard’s has ten GPS devices and we are finding that the children, most of whom are skilled computer gamers, soon pick up the necessary skills.”
