Caroline Flack has been found dead.

The 40 year-old TV presenter was found at her flat today, her family confirmed in a statement tonight.

The statement said: "We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today, the 15th of February.

"We would ask that the press respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time and we would ask they make no attempt to contact us and/or photograph us."

A lawyer for the family said she had taken her own life.

She was facing a trial in March, accused of assaulting her boyfriend, Lewis Burton.

Burton did not support the prosecution and despite a court order not to contact Flack, he reached out to her on social media yesterday to wish her a happy Valentine's and say he loved her.

Flack stood down from her most famous role, as host of Love Island, after the incident which lead to her arrest last year.

She began her career in 2002 on Bo Selecta and went on to present I'm a Celebrity...Get me out of here NOW!, The Xtra Factor and the X Factor.

She won the 12th series of Strictly Come Dancing  had a stint in Chicago on the West End and released an autobiography in 2015.
