Shoppers have been warned to stop using a supermarket hairdryer immediately because of a risk of electric shock.

Aldi has issued an urgent product recall for its Ambiano Ionic Hairdryer after safety watchdogs discovered serious electrical faults.

Investigators found the appliances fail to meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.

The power cord can become damaged over time, exposing live electrical parts and causing the unit to overheat or catch fire.

Safety officials confirmed anyone touching an exposed live wire faces a high risk of suffering an electric shock.

Customers who bought the styling tool are being instructed to stop using it and return it to stores.

The affected appliances were sold across Aldi stores between August and September 2025.

The product carries model number 849855, with affected barcodes printed on the underside of each dryer.

Specific barcodes include 4061462195075 for black, 4061462195211 for white, 4061462195310 for yellow, and 4061462195372 for orange.

An Aldi spokesperson said: "As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling the Ambiano Ionic Hairdryer (sold between August and September 2025) because of a technical fault.

"Anyone who bought this product should return it to their nearest Aldi store for a full refund. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

An Office for Product Safety & Standards spokesperson said: "The product presents a risk of electric shock or fire as, over time, the power cord may become damaged, allowing access to live parts or causing overheating.

"If the user were to touch an accessible live part, they could receive an electric shock. The product doesn't meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.

"The product has been recalled from end users by Aldi. Consumers who have purchased the product should stop using it immediately and return it to their nearest Aldi store for a full refund."
