Ross Kemp says he felt a “bit of imposter syndrome” among the cast of The Celebrity Traitors.

The actor and documentary maker, 62, is appearing in the new BBC series alongside Michael Sheen, Richard E. Grant, Miranda Hart, Jerry Hall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock.

Mr Kemp said: "Usually if I was packing to go away for work – maybe a hostile environment, a prison or I was recently in Columbia, for example – then I have a certain amount of control over what happens.

"I'm the exec producer.

"I decide when I get on the plane.

"I decide when I get in the vehicle.

"I drive the vehicle."

He described his usual working environment as "a small tight-knit group" of three or four people, in stark contrast to the scale of The Celebrity Traitors.

He said: "Whereas this is huge and with some of the biggest celebrities in the United Kingdom and beyond.

"I've got a bit of imposter syndrome going on around that."

He admitted to having three main concerns about taking part in the show.

He said: "Unless you've got an ego the size of a planet, which I don't think most people have, then there's an element of:

"A, I don't have control over this;

"B, I don't want to let the side down; and

"C, I don't want to let my family down by making myself look an idiot."

Despite his nerves, the former EastEnders actor said he was excited to be part of what he considers "one of the best TV shows around."

He said: "It transcends age groups and class, which I think is really important.

"My kids are absolutely obsessed with it, and they span ages fifteen to eight.

"I'm a great fan of Claudia, I think she's very good at what she does, and I think the format is brilliant."

He said he does not consider the show a reality programme but rather a game, which is what attracted him to take part.

The Celebrity Traitors returns to BBC One and iPlayer tonight (01.10.26) at 8pm.
