Shoppers have praised supermarket chain Waitrose for a change to its loyalty scheme, which helps more shoppers get small freebies.

MyWaitrose Little Treats reward scheme now runs across all stores and online, following a successful trial. Little Treats is a loyalty perk which gives shoppers to three rewards every month, including free products or money-off vouchers.

Some of the treats shoppers have enjoyed included a free bunch of roses, a sourdough pizza, coffee, tote bags and £5 vouchers.

Customers took to Mumsnet to share their freebies, with one poster saying: "I got a bunch of flowers, money off Duchy products, a cloth shopping bag, a pizza and a bag of coffee beans."

Another added: "Money off, number 1 coffee beans or granules and a number 1 sourdough pizza."

The pizza was a hit with a number vof customers: "I believe the pizza was the 'top prize'. It was quite nice actually. Onto November's now."

But some were disappointed: "I got a free tote bag. It was so stinky. I washed it and it shrank….now it is a mini tote bag."

Another said: "Cinnamon knots and mince pies (hate mince pies 😭)"

And others lamented the loss of the reward scheme's old perks: ""I still haven’t forgiven them for stopping the annual free calendar with the Christmas edition of the in store magazine. That’s the Little Treat I’d like."

How does MyWaitrose Little Treats reward scheme work?

In an email sent to members, Waitrose said: "Every shop brings you closer to a Little Treat. Each month, spend £50 and a Little Treat voucher will pop up in your account. Spend £100 for another, and £250 for a third. Remember to scan your My Waitrose card with every shop or log into your account if you’re shopping online."

It comes after John Lewis, the sister company of Waitrose, released its Christmas advert today, with a focus on giving thoughtful gifts.

The ad, created by Saatchi & Saatchi, shows the father clearing up discarded wrapping and coming across an unopened present with a yellow sticky note marked ‘Dad’ with a smiley face.

He unwraps the vinyl and heads straight to his record player, with the ad cutting to him dancing in a 90s club before flashbacks show him remembering his son as a toddler and a baby.

The ad ends with the two back in the family living room sharing a slightly embarrassed hug and a laugh.

John Lewis brand director Rosie Hanley said: “This year’s John Lewis Christmas campaign is a celebration of connection, memory and the unspoken emotions that make the season truly magical.

“At John Lewis, we understand the power of a thoughtful gift, and we hope the ad will inspire our customers to find the gift that articulates their feelings, allowing the present itself to speak volumes where words may sometimes fall short.”
