The UK's favourite home cooked meals have been revealed from roast dinners to stir-frys, according to new research. 

We all have a favourite homemade dish that we go back to again and again without fail - whether it's a cupboard staple or the ultimate comfort meal.

Now new research, conducted by the supermarket Tesco, has been published and the country's top ten favourite home cooked dinners have been revealed.

Whether you're a sucker for a spaghetti bolognese or you can't get enough of a cottage pie, these meals might be a regular feature in your kitchens or they could just inspire tonight's tea.

What are the UK's favourite home cooked meals?

Tesco's research has found the the country's favourite home cooked meal is a Roast Dinner with 39% of the vote.

Spaghetti bolognese follows in second place with 37% and chicken with vegetables (33%) ranks in the third spot.

The research follows Tesco's recent That’s True Value campaign which found that over half (59%) of the nation struggles with inspiration on what to cook on a budget.

Following the news, the supermarket has shared recipe inspiration to help more people enjoy mealtimes, including recipes for some of the nation’s favourite meals.

Brits are also becoming increasingly savvy with their food shops and are looking for offers and deals on ingredients more often (60%), according to the study.

More of us are batch cooking to make ingredients go further so nothing goes to waste (32%), and 51% are making use of supermarket loyalty cards like Clubcard.

That being said, Tesco found that only 28% are looking for price-matched products already, which can be a helpful way to save shoppers a trip by price matching against comparable products at other retailers - so there’s no need to go elsewhere.

The supermarket has price-matched over 500 of its products, to give great value prices on quality food including family favourites and own-brand staples.

Shoppers can also find inspirational recipes, that include at least one Aldi Price Match product, available on the Tesco Real Food website, with meals starting at just 64p per head.
