The Olympic opening ceremony was wonderful.
The James Bond sketch, the butterflies, the joyful music, the defeat by Mary Poppins of Voldemort, the march of athletes: I enjoyed them all. It was a wonderful depiction of Britain’s history. The set was astounding, the cast incredible, and the production masterful.
There was the side-splitting Mr Bean, a parachutung Queen, children leaping and laughing and David Beckham on a speed boat. What was there not to like?
