Mrs Nixon of Todmorden (LT, July 7) is concerned that reinstatement of the Todmorden Curve will not benefit the citizens of Todmorden itself.

I am sure she is worrying unnecessarily.

Should the day ever come when the Curve is reinstated, Burnley to Manchester services will need all the revenue they can get, and will almost certainly call at Todmorden.

The service would probably take the form of a circular Manchester-Bolton-Blackburn-Burnley-Todmorden-Rochdale- Manchester service.

Or if we dare dream of a reinstatement of the Colne-Skipton line, the service could, by reversal at Rosegrove, provide Manchester, Rochdale, Todmorden and Burnley/Pendle with a through route fo Skipton and North Yorkshire.

The case is very clear, but whether the investment necessary will be made remains to be seen.
