Yet again (LT, April 2) we have another highly-paid employee of Burnley Council expounding the merits of Burnley and telling residents how ‘great’ it must be to live here.

Does the council’s director of regeneration Mike Cook live here?

Mike Cook has been employed by the council for at least the years that I’ve lived in south west Burnley.

In that time, millions of public money (central government and European) has been piled into the town, so the least we can expect are some new buildings.

The fact that the Lancashire Telegraph was able to find so easily a picture of empty houses and dereliction is an indictment on how poorly the millions have been used.

The reality is that after years of investment, Burnley still lies way down central government’s national deprivation study.

The Accrington Road district (covered by the council’s Trinity ward) was ranked seventh poorest ward in the country based on crime, housing, unemployment and education opportunities.
