THE people of Blackburn and surrounding areas need to be kept aware of the revised Pennine Reach Rapid Transport scheme, submitted to the Government in January.

As a Blackburn resident who will be affected by the scheme, and further to my request to the borough council for full information, I have been advised that final details have not yet been made publicly available, and the scheme will be subject to ‘some further consultation with the public and businesses about changes to the project’s scope’.

Documentation available via the Department of Transport website (www. dft.gov.uk/adobepdf/165237/706167/709798/Pennine-Reach.pdf) suggests the intent is to retain most of the bus lane proposals in the original scheme.

Only the Darwen bus lane appears to have been rem-oved. Why are the wishes of people there taken into consideration, whereas those of the people of Furthergate/Accrington Road (and elsewhere on the scheme) are apparently being dismissed?
